In general, are some breeds more difficult to hatch successfully? I am a relative newby at 'artificial' hatching, and only got 6 live babies from 15 eggs - not shipped! Picked up locally. There was one fully developed that never pipped, but the other 9 eggs were not developed at all, maybe not even fertilized. I used at Genesis 1588 "set it and forget it" 'bator and the temp stayed level; the humidity stayed level.

My brother, a long-time 'bator user, put 12 eggs from same 'donor' in a week later, and of these, only 3 have hatched.

Am I expecting too much, or is this a tougher breed to hatch? Or would you expect more than 8 live babies from 27 local eggs?

I have not had a problem with them. I use the dry method of incubation, keeping the humidity
no higher than 35% for the first 18 days, then kicking it up to 58% for the last 3 days. Some do have a problem with them, but they are no different than any other egg. Let the weather warm up a bit and give the chickens a chance work out the mating process.
