Copper Maran hen is ill

3-4 yr old hen. Looks like pasty butt, but since I cannot catch her (she runs from anyone and anything), I don't how to help her. She doesn't seem to care for any of the food given to the chickens, but even though listless, she still moves along with the group and forages in a certain area of the yard.

Now she is starting to smell (btw: I've read the threads on yellow pasty butt, but I can't clean her without help).

I'd appreciate suggestions.

Wait until night time when they are all roosting, take a towel, put it over her and take her from the roost.
Wash her bum in warm water with a drop or two of dish soap and take a look to see what's going on. If the buildup is very thick you will have to be patient and wash/rinse a few time, you may also need a small pair of scissors to carefully cut some of the buildup/fluff away.

Some hens can get a buildup of feces on their fluff. If it builds up and flies lay eggs on there it can turn into what is called FlyStrike. This is where maggots are eating the hen. This could be the cause of the smell.

If you can post photos of before you clean her up and then after, that may help to see what's happening.
