I have these two copper marans , thinking both boys but one I think is as bit ambiguous..(the black one).. comb is paler in color then in the picture..and compared to his friend much less pronounced..
Are the blue ones rare?? I can return them where I bought but might offer him up for sale..he seems such a beautiful bird..and very Friendly..

Thickness of legs and pinkness of comb screams male to me.
No, blue isn't rare, and blue copper marans is a valid breed. Basically, it's black with a diluter gene--easy to breed out, if you didn't know. As a papa, your chick would produce half black and half blue chicks when mated to a black hen.

Good luck.

Oh so cute!, This is my favorite age of chickies. At first glance kind of ugly but you can see the beauty if you look for a few more seconds....:love

We're (I think I speak for everyone) unsure. Nothing's screaming cockerel, (no wattle development, tail size looks average, feet aren't huge, though comb's a little larger than I like.) My current guess is male, and has about a 55% chance of being right. Flipping a coin might get you further.

Try posting again in a few weeks?
