Hi, very new first time chicken owner here. I've seen others post similar looking Copper Marans. Comments have said they are roos. Can you help me with mine? It's approx 11 weeks old. Seems a bit beefier than my other chickens, so starting to wonder. Help appreciated.

Thank you. Can you tell me what you see in it that makes you believe that? What am I looking at? Still learning about the breeds I have. Out of all my birds, it's the most kiddish.

The comb and wattles, they're only that big and red when a pullet gets close to laying or is laying, around 18 weeks. Male combs get big and pink as early as 4 weeks, so if you have a young bird with a big pink comb and wattles, it's a male.

The white patches over the wings are also typically a male SLW trait.

Ugh! Seems true. My Marans is approx 12-13 weeks and started what I will assume is a faint crow today! We are in a rural area but close to the urban line. I need to prepare for possible removal if he gets too loud. He's fairly skiddish now of me, when hormones kick in should I be more cautious of him?

Also, I'm almost sure my black Australorp made the same noise last week. Is it possible it's a roo too? They are about the same age. Boy if that's the case and my Wyandotte is a roo too, I'm down to 4 hens. Not what I anticipated. Chicken life, I guess.
