Wondering about this one? Copperhead maran? Pullet or cockerel? Thanks!

Black Copper Marans you mean. Its a pullet. I personally don't see a beard, it may just be a combination of her pattern and the lighting. So I think you on the right track. Her legs look to have a yellow tint, which is incorrect for Marans though.

Thank you. Yes, black copper maran. So many names to remember! Do these pictures help? She/he is about 18ish weeks

dibid is right, I'm see a slight beard from that pic. That combined with the off colored legs makes her very likely a project Oliver Egger. Won't know for sure until she lays.

So if she gets a beard, she is a he? Or it just makes her a different breed?

Sorry had to laugh a little when I read that, a beard is not male specific trait. Its a specific breed trait, such as in Ameraucanas, Favorelles, and Orloffs etc. It means that you pullet is a crossbred or hybrid. As that a beard is not a Marans trait so she had to get it from some other breed.

Ha! I'm glad I could give you a laugh. Chickens are a new project for me but I'm loving all I am learning. As long as she is a she, I'm not concerned about a mixed breed. I'm actually not surprised since all the chicks I got from this guy seem to be random!

So, another probably laughable question- was you laying comment in regards to her gender or egg color for breed?

Thanks for the help!

I got a nice chuckle too thank you! The egg will tell whether she is an olive egger. She is definitely a pullet and is going to give you a beautifully colored egg pretty soon!
