Corid for geese? As a precautionary measure...

Ok as it stands today I'm believing this has nothing to do with my sick baby chics that I have n my bedroom.... I'm leaning more towards fowl pox... My effected hen n the coop has pox on her waddles and 1 right next to her eye... The eye that has bubbles and is swollen.... Do to the high number of mosquitos here I can see why! The VetRx I put around her eye, beak and under her wings has helped her eye a lot.... I feel happy knowing this isn't something from the new babies as previously thought... Just happens to be happening around the same time.... I figure Ill still finish the 5 day course of the meds since they r already on day 3.... Ill keep the updates coming.... All 3 of my beloved geese r doing great

Oh, we get fowlpox here. Poor chickens get it in particular seasons with the mosquitos, and they do suffer. i had one tiny chick die of it, the only one that successfully hatched out of 12 Brahma eggs, I was really disappointed. Some slightly older chicks got it, and left one with just one eye, poor little soul...he goes everywhere with his one eye looking ahead, so walks funny. He´s fine now, though. and the adults that get it don´t suffer so much. The geese have never got it from the chickens, although the place where they like to be is rampant with mosqitos at night. I buy medication here for fowlpox, but I´m in two minds as to whether it works.

Oh sorry to hear about ur one eyed chicken. Cool she can live and be happy this way I've read there's a vaccine for it but no meds. It just has to run its course and much like human chicken pox it happens one time. I dealt with this before years ago so at least I'm familiar with this issue (thank goodness!) pesky mosquitos r good for nothing! Especially our babies.... I've never had a problem with fowl pox n my geese neither...

Has anyone used covid 20 % soluable powder on geese? I talked to a gentleman that raises chickens at the feed store and he said he uses core it on his Poultry. He wasn't sure about whether it could be used for geese and waterfowl or not. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Corid will not help a respiratory infection, it inhibits the absorption of B complex vitamins which in turn starve coccidia protozoa causing them to die and allow the bird to develop immunity to the coccidiosis. Fowl pox will have to run its course as it is a virus. Vaccination for the unaffected birds will prevent the spread of the virus which tends to move slowly through a flock taking weeks or months before it has run its course. Waterfowl are not affected by coccidiosis but can and will carry it and pass it through the feces to chickens and turkeys.
