I was talking to a guy that raises chickens and he told me to use ground up corncobs instead of shavings. He said he is able to use less corncobs than shavings and they work just as well.
Anyone use corncobs?

I have been using it for a couple of weeks. Less dust, mess and the old ladies will clean it after the babies are finished scratching it all over the place.

Where on earth can you buy corncob?? Sounds intereting i am constantly tracking shavings all over my house.

I'd like to know where you can purchase it as well. Is it more cost effective than the shavings? I'd really like to try it.

How small are the cobs chopped? Are they hard to walk on or are they finer than that?

TSC has chopped corn cob for $6.99 per 40lb bag. You can't see the size of the chopped cob, but it's back with the horse bedding in the store at one of them. I wouldn't be able to use it for my horse, just saying. He'd eat it all!
I may grab a bag and see. I'll probably mix it in with the shavings. I also thought about getting the pelleted bedding. All I know is I am loathing the shavings right now.

They are about the same size as some starter feeds. They don't have a problem walking on them. I have noticed that my feathered feet babies, don't like it as much as the clean footed.

My friend got my started using pelleted horse bedding for my cat box a few months ago. When I decided I wanted chickens she said to use the same stuff. I must say I've been pleased. The girls like to kick it up all over and peck at it. It smells nice too. When I pick up the fuzzy butts I smell them (I know weird) and they smell like the wood pellets instead of poop. It's been easy to clean the poop out of too. They do eat some of it when it's gotten wet from the water dish and falls apart. Oh well right? They have been growing well and eating their starter feed so a little bit of wood won't hurt. They ate the wood shavings more when they were in that.
