My DH has aquired a new 'hobby'. He's making hootch! And, ending up with sooooo much corn mash. He uses cracked corn from the feed store and to be honest with you, I hate to waste anything. Been trying to be more self sufficent, going greener, signed up for green energy, now raising 5 BYC's for eggs, etc. I have read that others give their flock fermented feed or grains. Is it possible and safe to give this corn to the flock as a treat? If it is, is there anything special we need to do to it first? If it is ok, I was thinking of packaging it up into small zip lock bags and freezing it, bringing it out in the fall and winter months to thaw as a treat and to help with keeping them warm.....Any suggestions?:/

I think it is. I've done the same thing and I had no problems at all.

I appreciate the answer. I guess my main conccern is whether or not it is healthy for them. They seem to like it before the fermenting process. I tried giving them just a bit to see if they would eat it and they did. I know it is not a substitute for feed and that they shouldn't get too much, but I figure a couple of handfuls for 5 chickens wouldn't hurt!
