My husband is wanting to use corn stalks in our coop as bedding once the chicks go out. We can get them easily and cheaply. I could have swore I heard some mention of using them, but am now having a hard time finding any info on it.

Supplementing with a little stall dry now and then would help that however. Be worth a shot.. Especially if you grow corn or can get the stalks free or cheap.

Corn stalks can develop a mold that is very toxic to birds. I suppose it it were ground up and very dry it might work, but chickens will eat an *entire* head of sunflower and I'm wondering if they might stuff themselves with corn stalk. Maybe someone knows. I'd be tempted to stay with tried-and-tru bedding because chickens, well, they get into everything!
