Due to a lot of other stuff coming up this month, and next month being the timespan in which it will start to become cold, I've decided to put off getting chickens until Spring.

My husband and I talked it over and decided to get cornish for meat and RIR for eggs (and a silver phoenix rooster for my MiL because they are 'so pretty').

Should I keep the cornish and RIR chickies apart? I've read a couple comments from folks about cornish being aggressive. If so...I'll probably get a second coop built over the winter. Too many predators around here to risk free-range.

I would keep the Cornish and RIR apart if for no other reason that they need to be fed and managed differently. Plus the Cornish grow so much faster. However, when I order from Murray they put in a mystery chick. He didn't have any trouble coping with the Cornish.
