There are a few stories I've read over the years of people who had CX live for a year or more. When I raised mine (for food), I fed them flock raiser, mixed about 25% with grains (barley/wheat/oats) to bring the protein level down a bit. I feed them twice a day, basically all they could eat at one sitting (took around 20 minutes), and gave them a large yard to range it. I would scatter sprouted grains and old produce about to get them moving.
I've butchered some as late as 13 weeks, and I definitely could have waited longer for a few of them, as they were still moving OK. If I was raising them as pets, I would probably only feed them one full meal in the morning, increase the sprouted grain/produce forage for them during the day, and give them a last very small meal at bedtime.
