Hey y’all. Not sure if many people let their Cornish cross chickens live past processing age so I’m just putting a little info out there. I started off with 3 Cornish roosters from a straight run. One of them developed a leg problem at 3 and a half months old and couldn’t walk. The other two were doing fine. Fast forward to the 5 month mark and one of the 2 left had its comb start to turn black, which I learned a few days ago was because of the comb growing so fast and it not having enough circulation. I culled it just to be safe before fully finding that out(to make sure if it was a disease it wouldn’t spread or atleast reduce the chances of it). I’m down to my last Cornish and he is going strong. He’s a big beautiful rooster. I’m still in the 5th month and today he started crowing! I was very exited because I had been waiting and have read that sometimes they won’t crow at all. Please let me know y’alls experience with older Cornish cross roosters and hens. It’s always nice to learn something new. Thanks in advance!

Actually, there are a bunch of people keeping Cornish x for breeding. I will maybe tag the threads if I can find them. I have a 15 week hen in my flock currently, she requires locking up currently because of her need to feed but I hope she'll provide girth to my flock.

Thank you. I haven’t had any problems with feeding so far, however I have noticed that my bovan hens are eating more and acting less stressed since I only have one rooster now. Still kinda new to the chicken “scene”.
