Cornish Cross sources and prices

May I ask where you found that pic.. I looked and didnt see it... I wonder if that was before there move.. I hope I am not assuming too much but it did seem rather rude the way you responded to that.. I would think if you were asking for advice you would be a lil kinder to those who offer it.. IMO

Sorry, I did not mean to be rude. I added Central Hatchery to my list in the opening post and consider that one of my options.

I found the picture on this page.

No problem..Thats my biggest pet peeve with talking on the net is you dont get the human aspect, you cant see peoples facial features or read their body language.. It wasnt meant as a jab just making sure I got I read it in the correct context.. Good luck with your Cornishes wherever you get them from.. I am soo excited to get my first batch soon...

I did not mean to open a can of worms. My point wasn't that the conditions were necessarily poor or different from other hatcheries. My point was that it's not something I would advertise if I was a hatchery owner. I looked through their website and that is the image that stuck with me which I don't imagine was their intention.

I can see your point.. It would discourage a lot of people...

No worms here... LOL... I just figured that you were maybe thinking central was raising there poultry different compared to others. I agree... any photo that may have people questioning their practices, shouldn't be put on their site.

However, playing devils advocate, at least they are honest and even show us pictures... many hatcheries hide it...

I am new to this but some of those prices seem absurd. We raise show broilers and we get plymouth rock/white cornish crosses from our extension service for our shows. They cost 37 cents per chick less than a day old. There is no shipping involved we have to pick them up.

you get a discount because you are going to show them, most who raise meat birds, (not all) sell some. there is no shipping because you pick them up

You are not required to show them. They come from a Pilgrim's Hatchery and they are bought for the whole state at one time, so maybe the price is a bulk price considering the extension office buys tens of thousands at one time.

That's it... there is now way anyone would be able to buy 25 chicks for that price. Hatcheries would laugh at you.... but ya if your ordering for a whole state, I bet your going through a hundred thousand, which is a big difference.
