Cornish Rock sudden death

I have been raising Cornish X Rocks for the last 5 weeks all of sudden I have dead chicks. I check for obvious signs of infection. The last one that died had labored breathing. Anybody has any ideas of the cause?

Welcome highaltitude farmer! What is your elevation? I think that Cornish X don't always do well at altitude, can get fluid in lungs.

Raindrop: The elevation is at approximately 6,900 feet above mean sea level. You have described the symptoms well. According to the hatchery, they believe I need to cut down feeding. I am going to try that and let you know. Thanks for your welcome and support.

greyfields: I did not want to use medicated feeds or medicated water supplement. I am trying to be as "natural and organic" as possible. I will look up to see what is gapeworm, I have not heard of this parasite/disease.

I just have to buy more chicks to overcome the losses. Hopefully there will be birds left to harvest.

According to Mcmurray Hatchery Cornish rocks are not recommended for raising at altitudes above 5000 feet. Hope you have good luck with the ones you have left.
