CORNISH ROCKS, pets?

Everyone, please hear me out on this and give me your true honest opinion.

here people are awful at owning chickens, (where i live) im talking the “coop“ no bigger then the actual chicken, and a hen to rooster ratio, never get let out, barely a run, nothing. just awful, and people here are not very humane in butchering so i dont want cornish chickens to be hurt here, or any chickens honestly. people are just plain awful here. (Chicken owning wise)

by the way, by here i mean where i live, not byc

so, my question is, are cornish rocks TRUELY inhumane to own as pets? If not, i know there are things that must be done, what would?

im a vegan and dont eat meat and do not like slaughtering animals, specially chickens, so if it means id have to kill them at a certain age then no, or if it is a worse and more painful life for them to live on.

See if you can find some adults to adopt nearby? It will not contribute to the cycle of buying chicks and the store breeding more chicks. Just a thought. I'm sorry to har people are so awful near you

What's your scenario? Are you looking to buy some for pets or save some from an abusive situation or something? If you're looking to have chickens as pets I would definitely not choose Cornish Cross. They were bred to put on weight very quickly and the result is a relatively short lifespan, even with measures being taken to reduce feed. Often they have heart attacks.

im going to be treating them as pets, but not expecting them to live long at all. Just trying to let them live a better life as humanely as possible. As said im vegan so will not be using the meat, maybe some breeding of them would be nice to eventually, could sell them to people who are humane.

I don't believe they can be bred naturally as the males get too large to do the deed successfully.
@Weeg had a couple as pets. She still has one but lost the other recently. Maybe she'll give her two cents as far as pros and cons.

I personally don't think it's a good idea. I've raised them before and can't imagine trying to get their quality of life decent enough to live for a few years. They just aren't designed for it.
I wouldn't consider it inhumane, though, if you wanted to give it a try, unless you have a problem supporting the hatcheries that hatch them.

and thank you! Okay, so breeding is probably not going to work, but as long as its not inhumane to not kill them, im fine with it.
