Hi All:

I have 25 brooding currently and will begin to work on 2 tractors soon. Couple of questions:

1) Will they go inside at night and will that change as they mature?

2) If they will go inside, should the coup be ground level and would it need roosts?

3) How big should the inside be to fit 12 birds at night?

CornishX won't, and probably shouldn't be encouraged to, roost. They just need dry clean bedding to flump down on.

They will go in and out, although they may need to be taught the schedule.

They will need at least 1 sq ft of space per bird under shelter; how much more than that depends on your weather, the amount of space available in the rest of the tractor, and how big you gonna let them get before processing.

You might check over in the "Meat Birds Etc" section of this forum for broiler-specific advice and tractor designs.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
