Cornish X drops dead, how to prevent reoccurance?

how old are they? he might have died of a heart attack, it's fairly common if you let the JCxRs live longer than the recommended 7-8 week butchering.

well not sure about this do to I have 3 x-rock cornish hens that are well over 8 weeks .........25wks plus if I REMEMBER WELL ......really theybeen laying eggs and have so for some time , decieded to keep as breeders remind me of a large Bull Dog---LOL

Seems they must have been something else wrong with them

OK ... I have to post a reply to this about the 'bloody poops' on the paper. Are you positive that's what it is? When ours were chicks, I thought there was bloody poo, only to realize it was the red ink from the backside of the newspaper bleeding through. Just a thought! I thought ours were sick, but realized it was the newsprint. Strange, huh?

We''re raising our first batch of MMH Jumbo Cornish-X. We had 15, but slaughtered one at 5 weeks cuz it wouldn't stand. Nothing wrong with it that we could tell; it was eating, drinking, and pooping as long as you kept food/water in front of it. It just wouldn't stand up and if you lifted it up and set it down, it just wouldn't hold itself up on it's feet. We kept it up for over a week, and decided that it had a leg problem and it was the size of a good cornish game hen. Good eating.

We still have 14. They are 7 weeks today and HUGE. We are processing some tomorrow!
