I was given some chicks from our local church since I have been donating eggs to their food pantry....as they are now growing, I have realized that 3 of them are meat birds...They are just about the size of my full grown layer hens at 6-7 weeks. I have no intentions of using them for meat, of course they are the sweetest of all of the chicks and I just can't butcher them. My question here is, is there any way to raise them and have them survive? I know they aren't built to live much long butcher age. Their hearts and legs arent made to handle the size. Just looking for any information or articles that will give them the best chance....thank you!
