I rescued 4 Cornish X hens from my uncles chicken house about a year and a half ago...they lay wonderfully so I decided I'd try putting a couple of their eggs under my broody Barred Rock hen. The eggs are hatching! I had two to already hatch, little white peeps with black speckles on them. They are sooo cute! I just find it sooo amazing how the birds in the chicken houses can lay eggs that are hatch-able and soo darn cute! It just amazes me for some odd reason!

Its a very flighty breed, around here they call them "Banties". I think they are just a random mixture of chickens.

I now have 5 total babies from my X broiler hens! Sooo exciting!

i am intrested to see what these look like..
I thought meat birds usually dont survive that long because of leg problems etc?

They don't usually. If put on a diet early enough and given enough exercise, they will live a little longer. I've heard of a few laying, but I've heard they don't lay really well, not like the breeds typically used for that at least. It will be interesting to see what these chicks turn out like.

They look normal other than the few black feathers. Very cute little guys. I got a little picture happy! Sorryyy.

First to hatch! He's probably going to be normal size for a cornish rooster. He has some black on his beak, he's one of the coolest looking ones because of that.

Here's my little girl. She's on the small size but has pretty big feet. Such a sweetheart!
She needs a name too!
