Cornish X Rock Feed Volume & other questions?

Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay :

WOW. My daughters 4H Broilers weighed in at 8.4 and 8.7 lb at exactly 8 weeks of age.

Since this is my first flock of meaties, I don't have a lot to go on, but...

I'm sure they could be a grown much larger than I've achieved if it wasn't winter... & I wasn't so inexperienced. This batch has spent their entire lives (minus time hatching & shipping) inside brooder boxes, so I wonder if the lack of roaming/running/roosting space is hindering them too?

We have cold and snowy conditions here for a while and my cornish have been outside since they were two and three weeks old ( I did three seperate batches).
At 7 or 8 weeks however old they are now they should be almost ready for slaughter.
Put them outside with some heatlamps and room to move around and they will do much better.
If they are overcrowded chances are some of them are not getting to the feeder as much as they should.
I processed mine at different stages but at 8-9 weeks the smallest was still over 6 lbs.
Even being new at this it shouldn't make much of a difference on their growth rate, you feed them basic broiler feed and give them room and they do their thing, there is only so much control you have. Put them outside with a lamp and some food and water and they will be fine.
