I discovered a great summertime snack! A farmer friend of ours gave us a whole bunch of corn a few weeks ago. He had it partially shucked and stored in foodsaver bags so that we could freeze it and have corn on the cob through the winter.
I had my doubts about how it would taste so the other night I cooked up a few ears and it was awful! The corn must have had too much water in it because it was more like creamed corn on the cob.
I decided that on these really hot Southern days to throw a few ears in the coop and see what the girls think of it. They love it! I mean, of course they love the corn, but the chilly treat is also cooling them down in the heat of the day!
Maybe I should start playing some ice cream truck music for them!

I've thrown mine some frozen corn on the cob that was freezer burned really badly. You're right, they love it!

Cornsickles are a great idea. I'll have plenty of overripe corn coming up, so I'll try that. I tend to like my corn-on-the-cob more underripe and overripe, anyway.

Thanks!

corn is the thing everyone agrees about here... chickens, ducks and goats. i toss the husks to the goats and then let the chickens and ducks go for what's left on the cob. then the goats come back and eat the cob itself.

My MIL gave me a few bags of frozen peas. When I discovered they were a little freezer burnt I took the "block" of frozen goodies to the girls. They loved it! It cooled them down AND gave them something to do!

what a great idea!.
