Correct fence height for large fowl?

There are new electric fowl fence options out there. This would allow for shorter 4' fence. With the exception out there most chickens will hop or fly to the fence top before jumping out when it is no longer a comfortable place to roost they tend to train themselves not to fly the fence anymore. Plus it will help for those fighting predators.

But it's not like someone came on their property and killed a chicken. The bird was loose, thus it can be the owner's liability to cover damages. Same as if my horse got out on my road and someone hit it and totaled their rig. It's not the size of the animal, it's the legal aspect. That's why ALL animals need to be properly confined to their owner's property unless you're in an area dedicate to open range.

I understand and agree. I wasn't trying to make excuses, our chicken did get out. It was a whole epic saga with them leaving the scene of an accident (a misdemeanor), not filing a police report until 24 hours later, plus us living on a straight stretch 20mph that people speed on and the 2lb bantam hen.

Wow, that sounds pretty crazy. All the more reason to keep my chickens contained. We already have a moveable run almost done, just need more wire.

Thanks for sharing what can happen. Even when I'm watching them, they slowly creep over to the road. I won't be letting them out until the run's done.

That's a good idea. It would keep my dog from flushing the chickens too. If I had more money, I'd like to use this fencing.
