Cortunix drama. a Hatch on day 22 ?!??

Well, the little lone hatcher made it another 24hrs but gave up today. This was the worst incubation i've ever had. I think the shipping delays in the freezing cold temps must have harmed the eggs beyond saving. I will try my hand at cortunix again with these lessons learned. Hopefully i can find a better source for eggs. thanks all of you for the advice and help along the way :)

There may be other causes. An egg that has not started to develop yet, doesn't really care if the temperature is 40 or 75-F. But yes, 32-33 F might be a problem if the egg freezes.

It's only once you start it going, that it should try to maintain that temperature for the average 18 days to hatching.

The provider is probably a good enough source, just that this was not the optimum time of year to have a delayed shipment, with the cold temps.

As for the delayed walking, I have seen in my hatches, that if the bird takes too long to get out, his feet seem to be affected the most. I'm guessing this is related to being in cramped quarters for over 24+ hours, since we often say, wait up to 24 hours even when we see them making their first crack, but the reality is once they start popping, if they didn't have some other kind of trouble, they should be out in a short time.

As a result, if he positioned wrong, that will invariably affect his feet also, if he didn't get out fast enough.
