Ok, so my silver Cortunix hen was hatched last spring. Layed about 10 eggs over the summer after which she went into a molt and has never started laying again....... she is my only Silver and her 3 silver daughters out of the 10 only eggs i got from her sadly got killed by a rouge rooster when they were 5 weeks old.

My puny white cortunix hen on the other hand, which I bough as a 1 week old chick back in october, is laying up a storm, an egg a day nonstop.

Anyone got any Ideas on why the silver isn't laying? Same feed, same light as the white one. Can't think of a reason for her not to be laying..

Any tips or tricks to get her going? I would really like to hatch some more silvers.

I know it's not what you asked, but do you have a picture of the silver? I've never heard of a silver coturnix and I'd love to see it!

hm, can't remember when it gets light out in the morning but I have the light on in my house until 10 pm/ 11:30pm(they are indoors).

She wasn't laying last summer already after she was done with her molt with plenty of light time.
And like I said, the puny hysterical white feather duster of a cortunix is laying like crazy. And they are in the same cage.

Sorry I cant get the link to work either.... lemme clarify. When you say silver coturnix are we talking Coturnix, coturnix japonica ( what we call coturnix) or Coturnix, coturnix, chineses ( what we call button quail) ?

I personally have never seen silver coturnix, though i know they are in England as I remember Ironsun discussing them briefly. While silver buttons are quite common here. Thus the clarification.... either way 14-16 hrs un-interupted light/ day preferably full spectrum incandescent for best results. It is uncommon for either coturnix speces to stop laying like this.... Do you know how old the lady is?
