Cost chick to table...

My "material" investment was about $7.50/bird and I did 30 at once. However that kind of price put my labor investment at about $0.0001 per bird. Kind of sucks but still better than buying meat from Wally World.

I prefer not to think about it. All im concerend about is raising some ethically raised meat for myself that wont spoil the second you get it.

I make a decent buck selling off excess meatbirds, so that helps offset the cost of food and hydro and whatnot.

But if you look at it from a different view, if they don't feather out you have less feathers to pluck!!!!!

I also don't thing about cost. Or more like I don't like to ackkhowledge the cost. Or for that matter tell my husband how much these birds really cost. I am afraid if I did the calculations that would consitute evidence. I feel the same way about the rabbits.

I say look "hunny we are saving so much buy not buying meat." I just don't mention I spend 150 at the feed store this week.

I bartor for most of my grain. So that makes it easyer...then when I get birds, I often order as a part of a larger group. Since many of my friends have the same intrests I do, it's easyer that way and we save a few cents. i also raise feed for all the birds here. Zuk is easy to grow and a pack of seeds is cheep. Then I store up tons of pumpkins in the barn for winter.

I also think about what I'm not spending. I'm not at the mall or spending money out and about. I do the birds with my friends in a sort of buther bee, so in that respect, it's a hobby that rewards, not just takes. And when was the last time you saw a 9 Lb chicken at wally world?
