Cost of fertile emu eggs?

nope.. they aren't very good at protecting your flock or animals since at night they are vulnerable to attacks from dogs and coyotes.. even during the day they will guard their area only from what THEY deem to be a threat.. and some times they decide that their roommates / pasture-mates are the threat and need to die... there have even been instances of emu turning on each other.. so I would say if anyone needs a flock protector get a properly trained Livestock Guardian Dog or a donkey or llama

Our Emu's don't actively protect our chickens, ducks and geese but ever since we got the Emus we stopped losing birds in the pasture. I think predators are scared off by the Emus size, if not by them being chased by the Emus.

I do know you do not want to have chicks/ducklings/goslings in the same are with the Emus because they tend to pick them up and toss them around. So far we never had one eat a baby! Also, they either are not fond of or they are just very interested in the plumage of Polish chickens because they tend to pull out their head feathers and chase them. Luckily the Polish learn quickly and just don't venture into the pasture anymore.

Llama's also seem to be great flock protectors, possibly for the same reason Emu's are.
