Does anyone have any experience with using cotton for insulation on their duck house? My wife and I recently signed up for Sunbasket and they ship each box with recycleable cotton insulation wrapped in thick brown paper. I was thinking about insulating my duck house this winter and I was curious if maybe it’d be a good way to reuse the insulation rather than just recycling. Any thoughts?

I have no experience with this , but my first thought is that mice will really love it ❤️, if you put up vapour barrier over and under it , but by then you’ve spent money on plastic .....

Not sure it would be a good idea ...

Welcome to BYC!

Insulation is rarely needed,
ventilation is much more important-making insulation rather moot,
and it is a magnet for rodents and can harbor other pests too.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have the coop very ventilated, it was my main focus when building. It does get quite hot here though and my only hope was that I could keep the coop cooler in the summer months. Its regularly above 102+ for July - August and I want to make sure the girls stay cool.

Good point on the rodents though. Perhaps it'd be better to try and find another use for the makeshift insulation. Assuming just recycling isn't the best thing to do.
