Coturnix bobwhite cross

I had four male bob birds. I had one white, two normal and one strange color he had strips on his chest and sides. They all were round and plump like a bobwhite. They had big feet with big claws, big curved beaks. They take a bit longer to mature but when they do they make an awful noise when the crow. Their nonstop loud high pitch crowing will drive you CRAZY
that is why i don't have the any more......

they taste very good

Thank you,
There were only two female and one male bob whites, and two female and one male couturnix in my coop, None of the birds I have are white, especially the bob whites James.

Coturnix do not have to be white to produce white offspring. I can tell you with 100% certainty by looking at either the picture of the chick or of the grown bird that it is a golden tuxedo or an A&M. I set 50+ eggs every week, I see upwards of a thousand coturnix each year in every state of growth . Coturnix have been haphazardly bred for so long that you have no way of knowing what recessive genes you birds carry without tracking it through offspring. By searching through the BYC forum you can find many articles on coturnix genetics that will help you understand recessive genes better. There are also genetic calculators available around the web that will tell you exactly what offspring will be produced assuming you can provide the calculators with a punnet square for each parent. In a situation where you have coturnix and bob whites it is extremely unlikely they will breed unless you put them in pairs and essentially force it to happen. In an open cage with birds of both sexes of each species they will avoid each other unless they have something to fight about.

Edit: After re examining the picture its just an A&M. Pharaoh quail of unknown lineage often have recessive white genes from so much color crossing. basically your roo is recessive white and at least one hen is as well.

I was out taking some pictures yesterday and came across this guy I forgot I had.
This is a golden tuxedo coturnix but regular A&Ms can have that patch low down on their backs. I have in the past had pens of pharaoh (brown) coturnix who produced mostly white offspring because they all had recessive white genes.. Hope this helps.

dc do you have a site where you sell your quail from?
No but if you want some eggs I'll turn on the lights today (been too buys to run the incubator so I didn't light the girls up this year yet) and I can ship you some in about 3-4 weeks (I don't try to hatch them the first 7-10 days they lay) if you'll just pay shipping.
