Hi!

We have had a trio of Coturnix quail for a couple weeks now and one is laying a egg a day now. Either that or they are taking turns! LOL We are wanting to incubate some eggs and this will be our first time to do any eggs. We have a Hovabator (no fan) with the turner for chicken eggs.

My questions are:

Do I need to wait a while before trying to hatch some or should they be fertal from the start?

How long can you save them up before starting them and how do you store them?

Can I put more than one egg in each turner cup and how do they go in the cup? (Small end up or down)

On a budget whaere can I find a decient thermo hydro meter?

I read that they need to be at a constant 100 degrees but what about the humidity for quail?

I know this is alot of questions and I have read the stickied stuff but want to make sure we start out right the first time. There is alot of stuff on BYC about hatching chicken eggs but not near as much about quail.

Thanks!

break one open, if you see a "white spot" attached to the yoke, your good to go!

7 days or less is a good time line in my book... I use egg cartons. set one end on a book or something to raise it up. Every day when you add more eggs, turn it around so the other end is up.

Nope, one egg per "cup".. quail racks would be better, but the chicken racks will work in a pinch. Set them small end DOWN..

Walmart!!!

102 deg in a "still air" incubator (one without a fan). 55%-65% is where mine stays..
