For the few whose Hens have decided to brood/hatch eggs amongst the covey-
Can chicks knock a male ‘out of season’?
A little background- Hen decided to sit, most everybody was chased away especially the male. She had two hens that were tolerated near her. Everybody else went about business as usual anywhere else, but near her. She successfully hatched 5 chicks and two weeks later adopted 5 more of the same age. Shortly after, everybody was tolerated in her near vicinity, Including the male, who took to having several of the chicks sleep near him.
There has been no sexual activity since, no foam, nothing! They are all in various stage of molt, but he is done and stunning in his new feathers. Still nothing. The chicks are now 6 weeks old.
Any thoughts? I simply couldn’t find anything else to suggest why he isn’t active.

It looks like you’re in the NE of the US? The days are getting shorter, and if you don’t offer supplemental light, sexual activity and egg laying slow dramatically or stop.

I think it has more to do with the time of year than the chicks. I've noticed a lot less activity in fall and winter. My late chicks don't start crowing or laying until spring unless I provide artificial light to lengthen their day.
