My crossbeaked cot hen, Scooty, has one brown eye and one blue. You can't really see the blue eye well in this picture, but it's a lot lighter in person.

The only other cot I have had with (both) blue eyes was almost completely white; This one is piebald. She can see well from both eyes and has good hearing, especially when the mealworm bin gets a shaking 😆

Thought I'd share! Post pics of your coturnix' eyes, I would love to see all the different colors! So far I have had brown, blue, grey, and greenish.

There’s an interview, maybe Coturnix corner? With Perry Schofield, and he talks about back when he got started. He said there were all kinds of heterochromia back in the day, one blue one brown, one blue one pink etc.

I don't have any unusual colors, but most my hens of a given feather morph seem to a share eye colors too.

My Roux Dilute and wild type have had saturated brown.

Tibetan and Rosetta in my flock skew hazel-ish.

Most of my Goldens's eyes are some kind of dark brown, but Violet here has the darkest of the bunch.

@FloorCandy if you happen to have a link to that interview handy, I'd be interested in seeing it. Always wondered about the heritability of eye color in these birds.

Gimme a few and I’ll look, but it didn’t get into any of that if I remember, he just said it was a thing that was common back in the day.

I hope that’s it, the first time I just searched and found it, it was some Russian page, and there were a LOT of weiners is all I’m gonna say.

I don't know if you can see this, but her eyes are pink/red. I also have a hen with heterochromia. I have never been able to photograph it, so kudos to your skills. Beautiful bird!
They are wiggly little birds, aren't they? I had help with these photos, haha

I have yet to encounter a red eyed birb in my covey, though I do have some dilute colors

Wow, that's cool! So there really are a lot of different eye color combinations!

Have you ever had any solid white/mostly white birds? My one white bird had really light blue eyes but I have never encountered it since. (Maybe due to them being very hard for their owners to photograph, lol) A lot of people seem to have red eyes with their white birds, though they are not albino! There's a good example in this thread

Ive had 1 chick born with real red eyes, an albino, but it didn’t live long. I’ve had several double silvers, which have purply red eyes, I think the reality is that they have very faint blue tint to their eyes, but it’s not strong enough to cover the red.
