Yes, I know there are tons of posts regarding Tylan, and medications for coughing, respiratory issues in chickens. I searched and just couldn't seem to wade through all of them to find answers. I've been working with a Vet and she's researching as well. We received a sick Brahma from a breeder. (we are a rescue that treats birds that would otherwise be culled) She had respiratory issues, low weight, and very lethargic. she was really at deaths door. We spoke to the vet and gave her a shot of la200. no change. then tried Tylan orally (liquid form directly to the chicken) .25 cc for the 1lb bird. within an hour she perked up started eating and was a happy chicken. Kept this going for 7 - 10 days. coughing had stopped everything seemed good. 2-3 days after stopping the tylan she was back to the same symptoms. did another course of Tylan. Same result. awesome happy chicken on tylan, once stopped, slowly reverts to same symptoms. We've sent a fecal sample to the lab. We also dewormed with valbazen. There has to be some underlying issue or we just aren't clearing everything out with the tylan. Maybe something stronger? Larger dose? Anyone have some ideas? This chicken has been with some of our other rescued chickens and none of them are symptomatic..

According to Plumb's Vet Drug Manual, Tylan dosing is 10-40mg/kg given orally 2-3 times a day for 5 days.
If you are giving only once a day, then increase to 3 times a day.

Where is the bird being kept during treatment? Is environment changing once she gets better - say, you are isolating her, then putting her back into a coop/run?

Any changes in what you feed while she's being treated?

She was getting .25 cc twice per day, however it was tylan 200 so it's more concentrated. She only weighs a pound. She is a house chicken so her environment and routine doesn't change. The vet got back to me and we've started her on doxycycline. Hopefully we'll have better luck.

That's well over the max dose twice a day. If the tylan wasn't working hopefully something else will.
Not sure what's going on with her. If she improves with treatment only to decline after it's done, then look at environmental irritators.

Tylan200 is 200mg/ml but the 10-40mg/kg 2-3 times a day for 5 days still applies.
Max dose of 40mg/kg for Tylan200 would be .0909ml (or you could round up to .10) per pound of weight given orally 2-3 times a day, so she was getting 2 1/2 times the max dose twice a day.
