Coughing chicken

My guess is that she is laying internally, and that the yellow is egg matter. Mycoplasma (MG) is one of several bacteria that can cause infection in the egg tract, E.coli is the other. This is very common in backyard flocks. Since most antibiotics are not approved for poultry, I would just make her comfortable and try to keep her eating. If you feel that she might be getting an overload of coccidiosis, you can try some Corid for that. What did you use for worming?

I dewormed her with wazine. Can’t seem to purchase anything anymore in California. I treated the rest of the flock with WRM clear. Still no eggs from her and she is getting really skinny, though I do see her eating. Been monitoring her pretty close. She is still scratching around in the yard and going to bed on her perch. But still nodding out during the day. I have not treated her with corid yet. I’m debating on if that will make her better or worse considering her weight loss. Coccidious can be present even if there is no blood in her droppings?

I'm sorry she's still not doing well.

I agree with @Eggcessive she may be suffering from a reproductive problem.

Can you get Safequard Liquid Goat Wormer (Fenbendazole) you mentioned that Wazine was the only dewormer you could find - I would likely try the Fenbendazole to see if that helps. Corid may not hurt either, but I would still lean toward reproductive problems.

Does her crop empty completely overnight?

I agree that you should be able to find SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer and Panacur or SafeGuard Equine Paste in feed stores. I use Valbazen sheep and cattle wormer which is available online and in some stores. Those are what I would use next time you worm since they treat most of the worms that affect chickens, not just roundworm as Wazine does. SafeGuard and Valbazen are given orally to each chicken, not in the water. We can give dosages.

Since your hen is losing weight, I worry a little about cancer, but they may do that as well with reproductive and crop disorders. Checking her crop early in the morning to see if it has emptied as @Wyorp Rock suggested is a good idea.

Does anyone know what is usually the outcome of reproductive problems in chickens? Do they usually recover? This has been going on for two months now. I was looking at her poop this morning, it’s looking better/improving. I have been giving apple cider vinegar in the water. Going to see if I can find the goat wormer.

Most of the times we can only guess if they have reproductive problems, perhaps by some symptoms, such as not laying or laying abnormal eggs, an enlarged lower belly, an upright posture or waddling when they walk, and sometimes a tail that is lowered. Crop blockages or slowdowns sometime accompany them. Most problems, such as internal laying, salpingitis, egg yolk peritonitis, and ascites or water belly are eventually fatal. These are the most common causes of deaths in chickens. Many of us do necropsies on out chickens and open the abdominal cavity to look at the internal organs, especially the oviduct, liver, spleen, intestines, and gizzard, as well as looking for yellow fluid that may come out as the abdomen is opened.

Today her crop looks very full I noticed it after all the girls had been out for an hour, can’t imagine her eating that much food in an hour and I did not put any treats out yet. Still leaning on reproductive problems. I’m on Jeffers pet supply any opinions on safeguard multi species dewormer pellets (fenbendazole)? I’m familiar with panacur which looks like I could purchase for horses in a syringe form. One of you would know the dosage on that if I got it? Unfortunately I keep going back and forth about culling her. I would definitely get the necropsy done. Uggg decisions I have 6 week old chicks and I keep thinking I would like a few weeks to clean up the run and coop from what ever is going on before they slowly move in with the big girls.

Use the Liquid Goat Wormer (Safeguard/Fenbendazole). Dosage is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally for 5 days in a row. Weigh her so you get the correct dosage. I would worm first thing in the mornings before she has had anything to eat/drink.

Re-check her crop first thing in the morning before she eats/drinks to see if it's empty.
