Hello to all you chicken lovers, Last fall I noticed what we found to be lice in the coop (on the walls and in the food; I cleaned out the whole coop and sprinkled sulfer powder around while the hens were out, and haven't noticed the lice since, but wondered if the hens got infected with anything from them [I even found lice in the food stored in the garage], but not in the next food bag opened.
This winter, I lost half of our 18 chickens; two this past week. One by one they looked sick (tired, head shaking, eyes closed, looking miserable). I even brought the sick one into the bathtub for a warm night, but they died; not sure why. I looked up Marek's and other ailments and never figured it out. I wondered if, what I found as natural immune boosters, natural antibiotics could be given to the hens, as I know they worked for our Italian Greyhound when he was sick. Comments appreciated about my notes below:

Foods: elderberry, garlic, kale, beets, sweet potatoes, diatomaceous earth, egg shells, vitamin C, turmeric and honey paste w/pepper. Oreganol, plantain, honey, apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, pumpkin, fish oil, kefir, yogurt, echinacea.

Elderberry tincture (immune booster)- fill canning jar with elderberries, cover with organic vodka, put lid on and let sit; take a spoonful when cold coming on. Children: spoonful in hot water + honey, let sit until alcohol dissipates and when cool enough, give to child. ??how about the chickens??
