coughing peahen?

We need more information to better help you , please. Can you answer the question in the second sticky thread of this forum, only into *this* thread so that we can set up a flock history?

What color are the droppings? HOw long has this been going on? Any eye or nose discharge? how old is the bird?

First thing I would do, regardless, is isolate him and put him where you can monitor him. Give him yogurt daily (2 teaspoons) for the diarrhea. Try hiding it in cooked oatmeal or boiled mashed egg, or on bread.

For the coughing and wheezing, do NOT medicate yet. It may be viral in which case antibiotics would be futile. DO supplement for vitamin A (cod liver oil sprayed on top of his feed twice this week with a misting bottle) for respiratory healing no matter if it's viral or bacterial.

Prepare to medicate, buy the antibiotics (tylan50 injectable, LS50 soluble, or Duramycin10 for water) and also PLEASE buy Probios powder or paste from the feed store (cattle section), or acidophilis capsules from the vitamin section of a store. You will want to give probiotics (or yogurt, depending on what medicine) every day of treatment.

Do NOT give yogurt with any med ending with 'mycin or 'cycline. You can use with Tylan, the med I would recommend most highly of the three.

I look forward to your answers so that we can see what step to take next.

p.s. VetRx from the feed store, any kind (poultry, rabbit, etc) or Marshal Pet Peter Rabbit Rx from major pet stores is a non-medicinal method of reducing mucus (thus coughing), helping breathing, and making the bird a lot more comfortable. More comfort = quicker healing. If you can get that, pick up the small (2 ounce) bottle. You'll use mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with hot water (a few drops only of each), stir will, use q-tips to swab and clean each nostril, under each eye, and the roof of his beak. (Use a new q-tip end at each place). Make sure the q-tip is good and wet with the vetrx water mixture.
