Hi all,

I noticed last night that one of my Buff Orpington Hens (6 month old) is couging, I think???

Weird sound, kinda a mix between an honk and a choke. I noticed it while she was eating.

She is acting completely fine other wise. Eating, drinking, behavior all normal. No discharge from eyes, nose or anything. Running around just fine

Just this darn cough thing..... I think I heard it this morning too. Altho I was just out there and everyone seemed fine.

It just got cold around here ... down to 32 ish at night. Perhpas that is a factor??

This is my first flock, so I have no experience when it comes to any sort of sickness.

Perhaps it was just an isolated thing?? I don't know?

Any sugguestions would be helpful!

Thanks,

Kim

I don't have any experience with coughing either. Maybe someone will come along soon.

I would just monitor her. It sounds like maybe she is gobbling her food too fast and it goes down the wrong "pipe". I have a couple that do that, especially when I show up and surprise them. I think when they are startled while eating, they don't swallow right or something. Then they are fine the rest of the time. Let us know if you notice anything else odd.

Jody
