could a stethoscope be used to listen for heart beat and growth?

I am eggcited!

I have about 23 eggs due to hatch this coming weekend and candling doesn't reveal much in the way of chick growth, only air cell growth. Could a stethoscope be used to listen for life signs? It is too late now to be opening the bator but maybe next time I could use one to listen for movement and such. It may even enable me to listen through the incubator since it is styrofoam.

Anyone ever try this? Has it worked? Any draw backs?

Hmmmm.. I actually have an infant stethoscope for my work. Eggs are arriving next week, so I'll give it a try at some point in the process.

i have a stethascope and tried to listen. i couldnt tell if what i was hearing the heart beat or if it was the sound from putting the stehascope on the egg.. grr lol

I thought I heard some sounds coming from the bator... it was my finger on the stethoscope. Then I thought I heard something else.... it was one of my dogs scratching around on the floor to back a place to lay (smile here pulling out hair!)
I had to be very still and not have any hands on it anywhere, but still couldn't hear anything yet. I will keep trying though! I only have a cheapie stethoscope I bought from Jeffers years ago, maybe a better quality would work better

I tried using mine to hear internal pips and tapping but have a hard time hearing anything when I tried on the last hatch.(I did not use it in lockdown just before) I have a http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Littmann-Gallery/stethoscope/cardiology/master/ which works great on humans... Eggs... well its hard did use it to find that there was no life in the last two eggs that were to hatch.

I think its hard to hear much because of the shape of the egg with its rounded shape you don't get the full contact of the scope. When you have exposed areas of the bell you will pick up a ton of outside sounds from your fridge running to your cats walking around the house.... But I will say it is worth every try.
