Hello all! We have a new batch of chicks that we purchased on Monday. Eventually, they will be introduced to our gals (who are now 8 weeks old.) We have 7 chickens in the original batch and purchased 8 chicks in the second batch.

The largest chick in the second batch is a Golden Laced Wyandotte. She's larger than the other chicks, but we HAD to have her because we have a Silver Laced in our original batch and she's stunning. When our original batch was growing their feathers in - we never noticed so much skin. This particular girl, named Fiona, happens to be quite bare. To be fair - so were the other GLW's in the tub with her when we were picking these chicks out.

We are new to chicken farming and would like your opinion on whether or not she's sick (being so bare)....

Thanks in advance for your help!

Oh really?? What would indicate rooster to you? lol... that certainly wouldn't be what we expected! We just want some good ole' fashioned egg layers!

It's really too early to even be guessing, but the fact that the chick appears to be twice the size of the others, slower feathering, very thick legs, and a relatively thick comb for such a young chick make me suspicious. I will be very happy if my suspicions turn out to be wrong, and I really should have kept my thoughts to myself.

He looks pretty normal to me. Yes... he. I think you may want to run these pics by the What Breed Or Gender is This? section of this forum because I am not by any means an expert on identifying roosters, but that bird has a roo-ish look to it. I have several GLW hens and they didn't look as fierce as that when they were young (I'm guessing about 3 weeks?), and they didn't have legs as prominent as those. The pic cuts off so I can't see the full leg, but what I can see looks huge. I suspect Fiona might be a Figaro.

You have both been quite helpful! I shall post in the gender section right away!
