Could you post pics of your ladder-type (staggered) roosts please?

Thanks for contributing y'all. I really appreciate it.
One thing I did learn is that the 2x4s for roosts do really work better than round roosts because the birds don't grasp with their feet all night. They grasp initially to get settled, then settle on their keel bone and cover their feet before letting go.
Maybe we'll end up running single height roosts along the wall instead. Seems to me that it causes more roost fights in the evening though. The higher ranking birds don't like their underlings being on the same level.

Here's a photo of the roost under construction

And here it is finished (pre-hen)

And of course, here is where the hens ACTUALLY roost

good info gritsar, seems that my long single height roost might be causing the same bickering... I am thinking of two small ladder types in a couple spots. Mine fuss over the end spots nearest the walls

eta: thinking no matter what i end up with, I'll still have that chicken behavior!

I guess I'll show my roosts even though they aren't technically "ladder" style, lol. They are stair style. I used stair risers and 2'x4's flat side up. Instead of nailing or screwing them down, I put little scrap pieces of wood on either side of the 2'x4's so we could just set them up there and be able to take them out to scrape and hose off when needed.

Good luck in whatever style you choose.

Ok brounii you need to create a page for your coop now.
We want more pictures! I read the post when you finished it but you did not have any inside shots.

I have 2 roosts, 1 is about 8 ft across and about 8 ft high. It has to pretty sturdy to hold 60 + chickens.

My other roost is about 4 ft across and about 2 - 3 ft high.
My chickens anyway really like higher roosts ... my guineas would never go to the pen that had the smaller roost ( Which is weird cause they're raised in there! ) they would always go to the coop with the larger roost!
If you have silkies/frizzles you do need a low roost ...
