Tonight was supposed to be the girls first night out in the coop. They are 5.5 weeks old.

We got home from a party at 11 and it's cool and windy (we are in the mouth of a canyon, it's always windy at night) and there were dogs barking behind us.

The girls were still cheeping and were all piled up in the corner of the coop.

I had to bring them in. They were sad and scared and lonely. If you don't believe me, just ask me.

Any bets on how long it takes me to cut those apron strings?

Anyone else have this conundrum?

I've been in South Weber in June and July.

You could have left them out there, at 5 weeks, they are feathered out and fine.

Oh yeah lol,, it's drizzling, it's 12:10am and I just hot footed it outside to make sure my 4 little chickies and 1 little duckie were safely in the kennel with an adult chaperone and a blankie.

And I thought I had it bad. I've gone outside in the middle of the night becauze my St Bernard was raisng cane just to make sure nothing was bothering my chickens. I put chicks out side at 3 weeks old, but it's hot here. we are getting 100+ in the day and 80's and 90's at night. Not much break from the weather. I heard we are suppose to have a cold snap. Suppose to get down to the lower 90's and upper 80's. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, i'm freezing just thinking about it.

The first night our chicks were in the coop it was unseasonable cool and there was a thunder storm. We brought them in.

It took me two more nights before I finally left them in the coop all night. In my defense, our weather here was way colder than normal at night and we had rain almost every day this month. They were 6 weeks at the time.

She isn't saying she COULDN'T do it because of weather or temps.. she's saying, she' far too attached to her babies to leave them all alone in the big dark world and have them peeping in fear!

It's 11:20PM and still 100 degrees outside.... wish you'd send some of that rain over in NM a little to the west.

... I know... but someone had to give her a bad time about it.

I would love to send some rain your way. I think this was the first day that we had a full day of sun and warm weather in several weeks. My back yard was a muddy mess. Mosquitos are out of control and my garden is way behind schedule.

P.S. - my worrying about the cold and thunderstorm probably had alot to do with my fear of cutting the apron strings as well.
