(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

Hello from North Carolina! I'm an about-to-be chicken owner--in 12 days, to be exact. First timer--VERY excited over here.
I'm buying the whole set-up from a woman who is moving cross-country and can't take them along. Serendipity rules!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
There will be five.

(3) What breeds do you have?
1 Gold-laced Wyandotte (9 mo.), 1 Blue Copper Marans (5 mo.), 1 Easter Egger (5 mo.) and 2 Barred Rocks (5-mo.) The Wyandotte is the only one laying so far. They're really social and curious and they all ate out of my hand, so I think we'll get along just fine.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
My chicken mentor/friend

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
growing fruits, vegetables and herbs; reading; yoga, scuba diving--anything in, on or under the water

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

In addition to our future chickens, we have one weird little dog (maybe a cockapoo--he's a foundling), two indoor cats and two--also indoor--green tree frogs.

I know I'll have tons of questions, but I wanted to say hi for now. I'm so glad I found this place. :)

Make sure to stop by our learning center for lots of good tips and hints on raising your new flock. Mountain Peeps has left you with the link.

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC! You have a very good and through introduction. This is the place to be when you have chickens. Just post any questions you may have on the forum and I'm sure you'll get lots of replies. Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to the flock, love your user name. I hybridize streptocarpus plants and one of my newer hybrids is called "Deep Blue Sea," blue blossoms with yellow at throat over variegated foliage.
