Countdown to receiving new chicks on oct 9th week

Thanks. Been fighting sick and injured chicks and an injured turkey. All my years of experience and things are popping up that I have never dealt with before....:idunno  Hoping today is better. I am so excited for you the chicks look so adorable. I think I will spend the day with my chicks today and get some photos of their pretty wings and tails that are growing..

I've been reading a lot of that lately, from what I've gathered a lot has to do with the wacky weather ( at least here in ny). I was worried getting the babies because its just so cold...and wet. We have been swinging twenty+ degrees a day here

This is your RIR - which is really a Production Red. True RIRs do not come from a hatchery :)

I don't see a single barred rock.. I counted 11 chicks. How many did you get?

Honestly this morning has made me really happy with the ecoglow, the chicks really are cute as they run from underneath it to get food and water. I noticed some of them just kind of chill right at the edge, like they don't need much heat but just a little. Reminds me of my husband when we sleeps with one leg under the covers and one leg sticking out...they seem really quiet and happy under there...they get louder when they come out for food and water. I was surprised by how tiny they are, I. Kept thinking they needed more space. The box they came in is outside but they could have fit triple the amounting there almost. The DOA will be buried later today. I feel sad that she died for me :( but I hope she didn't suffer or have any disease etc.
So far I've learned :
1. chicks poop a lot...I keep changing the towels lol didn't want to interrupt the eating so. I placed a towel over a poop.
2. Chicks are better than tv....I have done nothing but feed my daughter and watch chicks today.
3. I wish the ecoglow was clear
Yes chicks poop a lot! I only change once a day - and most times I just do a layer over the layer and change every few days completely.

Brinsea actually has a clear ecoglow type thing..

I never saw the clear one! Lol my husband got me the education pack as I'm going to bring some chicks to my sons school in the spring. There is one with the white dot on her head....I've been trying to keep track of who is who but they move to fast lol...the big one doesn't have the. White spot though...twelve living

So what's the deal with Rhode Island reds? I am kinda glad it's not a true rip, as after ordering them I read a few sources saying they weren't as friendly. Someone local here has a flock of rir and that is why I added one to my order. ..I'm fascinated by the different colors..I see all different colored beaks and feet...I'm waiting to do individual shots until later when I have company to take pictures.

You should post pics and number the chicks :p

I find the best way to keep track is leg bands.

:) Don't you just love chicks :love

Now I want to hatch more

I almost got leg bands but then I worried I was going over the top...now I wish I had...they move so fast sometimes ...and of course the ones that look similar are camped out together under the ecoglow so I can't tell if I keep seeing the same one running out etc...

The leg bands definitely aren't going over the top :p I haven't ordered these but I have been recommended to them by a breeder. They said they work best and are easy to put on. Skip the spiral ones, those are nasty! I feel like I'm breaking their little legs if I try to put it on :(

These are like small rubber bands, so are very safe. Cheap even!

Do you have two white(ish) chicks? I said one looked like a buff laced polish, but is it the same one I also said blue splash marans?
