when letting a chicken hatch her eggs, when do u start the count down? Is it after the last egg is laid? My bantam, Hawkeye, laid eleven eggs. One egg a day. The last egg was laid about seven days ago. When should they hatch if they are fertile?

If you didn’t put the eggs under your broody all together, then day 1 starts on the first day she sat on the first egg/s. I would recommend marking the eggs that you want her to hatch and then removing any additional eggs after that. Candling the eggs would be a good idea to monitor progress. Best wishes with your broody and hatch! Keep us posted with the progress and be sure to post pictures! ❤️

I left them alone, she didnt get broody until she had the eleventh egg. We candled today, and we see an air sac, and a yolk in every one, and some veins in several, but no absolute dark areas. So basically I just dont know what images to compare them to.

Since she didn’t go broody til the 11th egg, then I would count today as 7 and go from there.....just keep in mind that it could be a scattered hatch and expect hatching to occur before or after 21 days. Candling will be important to monitor each of the eggs progress. I would candle once a week and throw away any quitters or unfertilized eggs. Good luck!!!!!
