5.Do you write the date on the eggs? If you do what do you use to write on the eggs?
 
Depends on the temperature outside. If it's really hot or around freezing, you want to collect more often. Normal temps, collecting once or twice a day is fine.

I keep my nesting boxes clean, so my eggs are clean. I don't wash my eggs. If you wash them, wash them in warm water and be sure to refrigerate them. When a hen lays an egg, she coats the egg in a protective bloom that keeps bacteria out. When you wash eggs, you take that protection away.

Washed eggs will keep a week or 2. Unwashed will keep several months. (although mine aren't around that long)

Blood spots in the egg sometimes happens. I have 1 hen that it happens more often with than any others.

I only write the date on my hatching eggs, but pencil works fine.
