couple of questions about my 7 wk old ducks (pics)

Q 1 - Mallards or rouens? (I think Mallards from what I have read)

Q 2 - Drakes or Hens or 1 of each? ( I am almost positive the one is a drake, and now the other is starting to make me think that it is also a drake)

Q 3 - If they are both drakes will they get along? or should I start looking for someone to trade with?

Can I keep 2 drakes and only 2 drakes and have them be friendly?

If they're both drakes they could fight each other, especially if there are hens around. My friend had two drakes and had to give me one because he was very aggressive toward the other one.

I started out with 4 drakes, they did fine together until I got some ducks. Even after that though, they don't really 'fight' with each other.

Judging by their eye stripes, I would say that they are mallards. At this stage, it's almost impossible to tell what sex they are by looking at them. You can do the 'quack' test though. Pick each of them up, if it quacks it's a girl, if not it's probably a boy.

How old are they, btw?? Males will have a very raspy sounding peep, even as babies, but you have to be around them a lot to be able to tell the difference. But if they are still peeping, and their peeps sound like a squeeky toy, they are probably girls

Thanks, I will try quack thing. They are between 7 & 8 weeks old, the larger of the two has a green glisten to his head, and I swear I think I am starting to see it on he smaller one. BTW one is fairly larger and lighter brown than the other.

Sorry about the age thing, when I saw that you reposted, I read the title again

I'm not too bright sometimes!!

Anyway, at this age, they should be quacking if they are females, and the green sheen to the head is a dead give-away to being male. They will also start getting the green on their backs a lot of the time, before they get it on their heads.

If one is lighter colored, it could be a female. Female mallards often are lighter colored, but not always. But the quack test should be fool proof at this age.

one has a tale-tell black beak of a hen, and the other has the yellow beak, wich says male to me

Woo Hoo, Just went out and picked each ofthem up, the smaller one for sure Quacks, the Larger one kinda has a rough squeak like noise....
