Couple Questions About Color And Price

My eggs in the incubator should start hatching any day now. Now the father is a white eye Charcoal and the two mothers are IB split to charcoal and a Purple BS. What color would I get from each hen? For example if the chick looks IB would it still be split to Charcaol or if they look purple BS would they too be split to charcoal. I know Deerman answered me in a PM but I hit the wrong button and shut down my computer and I have not been on the same time as him since LOL!
Also what would you charge for those chcicks? I have some people interested in them locally but have no idea what to charge for them?

if you get any charcool our purple let us know debbie has been looking to buy some in that color.she sells here sp an white chicks for 35$ each in ct an sells pretty fast so that is what we would charge.good luck an keep us posted right now debbie has 2 pieds 1 sp an 1 white she has 3 more eggs in bator an 2 under a broody peahen.we hatch all pied sp or white.

All chicks that are IB will be split charcoal, and if out of the purple bs hen, they will be split to bs also ,and the males will be split purple. Some should be charcoal, Trouble you will not know which are split bs , and purple.


A male IB split charcoal, BS, purple, and could be W.E. would be a great find for a breeder working with charcoals.


But yes any chicks from the charcoal we , if IB will be split charcoal.

This is one of the reasons I don't like split birds, I'm going to back out of this one because looking back I think I was wrong in what the off spring would be.

But this I do know a male CAN be split to a sex link color and a hen CAN NOT be split sex link it will be what it is.

Nevermind! I was thinking in human genes again. I forgot it's the males that need 2 copies and the females that need only 1 copy for genders. Hooray for reading my old genetics post to remember!

So the new question... the females from the purple BS hen should be purple, right?

Steve your right on about sex link colors.


Split birds are cheaper, than the new colors or pattern, but when adding new pattern ,to a color split birds are what you need , unless you just want to pay the high price for that birds ......Charcoal w.e. blackshouder silver pied , would be a very high price bird, but you could produce one easier with birds that are split. After all the only way to get them in the beginning is to use split birds.

One bad thing about split birds , is sometime you need to breed their chicks before you know which are split. Thats were good record keeping helps.

Steve don't worry about getting some wrong , Myself I have got a few ID wrong on some chicks, then other catch it (thanks Doug)

The pied breeding get me sometime, even thougt i understand it.......like last year , i when back double checking pen # checking egg shell for marking, because i got a white chick out of my spaldings(50%)split charcoal pen, knowing the birds where split pied and white, sad thing i sold those birds to a newbe, and they could be white(charcoal masked)

Yes like color blindness , in most case mother pass that to their sons, because they can carry it hiden, father can't.
