Covered cat box as nest box?

Well, maybe but I'm betting that it would on the floor of a coop,
not outside as shown in pic.
Hopefully @Jenilynchickmom will come back and tell us.

Personaly, I would not like it on the floor and have to stoop over it kneel Down ( yuck ) to check for and gather eggs every day.
I'm 62 and deep knee bends are a thing of the past for me.
I agree yard sales and places like goodwill you may pick these up cheap.

I am using them, but when outside they need to be covered from rain. The rainwater on mine goes in top through vents. I have drilled hole in bottom to prevent water from collecting excessively. The boxes come into their own when chicks hatch. I can readily move hen with brood at night, or I can move hen with brood across state to be released for an event. Either way they can be called back to box rapidly.
