Covered nesting boxes

Just remembering that my grandparents used to have cloth " curtains " covering the front of the nesting boxes, either for privacy or darkness (?). Haven't noticed any reference to this on the forum. Anyone do this?:)
 
I agree. Mine do fine without them.
 
I cover my nest boxes with a thick cloth (various colors) and it seems to make it more inviting for my girls to lay.
 
That's what I thought, but I am thinking of doing a redesign in my coop . I only have two nesting boxes for up to 6 birds but now and then do find an egg on the floor. Right now three of my birds (RIRs )give an egg/ day/ bird while the three older leghorns are only producing one egg/ day between them .
