I bought some nettting and put it over my original run. Here is a site that sells netting. This is where I bought my netting. I thought it might be informative.

My hubby and I strung nylon fishing line from many points along the fence, up over the coop and over to the other side of the fence. Our run is about 30X30 with the coop in the middle. This resulted in lots of lines over our heads that have kept out hawks so far, and it's cheap, too. Good luck!

Our run is 18x8x8' and we used clear corrugated vinyl sheets (PalRuf) that comes with special screws washers. Takes a heavy snow load with ease- makes tending the birds so easy in winter. Also comes in opaque panels if you need shade...

The run is like the vegetable garden though, may not work.
