Cowardly or Just Lazy?

OldGal and I decided to give the quackers a new treat, minnows. As soon as they realized that there was something in their pool besides them they all jumped out. When the minnows started dying a short while later they jumped back in and ate them.

Read your post and got a mental image of the ducks shouting, "Out of the pool, out of the pool. We've been invaded."

My ducks do the same thing with anything in their little horse trough. I think they believe it might be a snake and of course there are things that eat them that swim beneath them in some places. Like gar or snapping turtle. It's instinct. "Oh it touched my foot!! Paddle, paddle!!! Everybody out!"

I love ducks!!

Oh no! I would never make fun of your ducks (or call them cowardly or lazy

)! Wouldn't want to hurt their feelings, bless their little web-footed selves.

On a serious note, I've always considered fear to be a very useful survival instinct.
